Asbestos removal categories

There are three different types of Asbestos Removal and Encapsulation work: Non-Licensed Work, Notifiable Non-Licensed Work (NNLW), and Licensed Work.

All non-licensed and notifiable non-licensed work with asbestos must be carried out as detailed in the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and the task sheets within the HSE resource, Asbestos Essentials.  Those carrying out the work must have had the correct level of information, instruction and training, to protect themselves and others from the risks to health that exposure to asbestos causes.

Licensed work must be carried out by an HSE Licensed Asbestos Removal Contractor (LARC). Inner City Environmental is a fully licensed contractor by the HSE, who can carry out all asbestos removal and remediation activities.

We always recommend using a licensed contractor to remove any asbestos, whether it is in the commercial or private sectors.

Removal or encapsulation?

If a building constructed before the year 2000 is due for demolition, there is a good chance it contains asbestos. This can be confirmed after a demolition and refurbishment survey, which we can arrange for you through accredited surveyors. Inner City Environmental uses a variety of methods to carry out asbestos removal works under controlled conditions. However, if the building is undergoing refurbishment and asbestos is found in good condition, you don’t always have to remove it — you may be able to manage it.

Why choose asbestos encapsulation?

Asbestos encapsulation is a cost-effective alternative to the often expensive asbestos removal process. Removing asbestos can release fibres into the air if not carried out with extreme care. The encapsulation method seals the asbestos material with a protective coating, making it a safe solution for preventing the disturbance of potentially dangerous fibres.

The benefits are:

  • More cost-effective option than asbestos removal
  • No fibres are released
  • Less time consuming
  • Less disruption caused
  • More environmentally friendly
